William H. Harsha Cable Stayed Bridge
US 62/68 over the Ohio River

Maysville, Kentucky to Aberdeen, Ohio

Located 2.8 miles downstream from a suspension bridge joining the towns of Maysville, Ky. and Aberdeen, Ohio, the William H. Harsha Bridge is Kentucky’s first cable stayed bridge. A new bridge had to be constructed to carry US 62/68 over the Ohio River because the existing narrow suspension bridge could not safely handle large, heavily loaded trucks.

A consulting team led by ENTRAN was responsible for conceptual studies, preliminary and final designs, contract plans and construction engineering services for the steel alternate. During the conceptual stage, ENTRAN investigated continuous and variable depth steel through trusses and cantilever suspended trusses, in addition to the steel cable stayed bridge. The five-span symmetrical steel cable stayed bridge was selected.
